EOTD 02 : Smokey Greens

So, I went to watch Rango tonight with a friend and since the main character in the movie is a lizard/chameleon, I was inspired to do a green eyeshadow look for the night. Teehee.
As always, here are the products I used :

Face
Cellnique Total Daytime Protection 30
ZA Skin Beauty Face Powder in shade 01
The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist

Cheeks
Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in Powder Pink
MAC Sheertone Blush in Instant Chic

Eyebrows
Elianto Eyebrow Definer Pencil in Brown
Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Rich Sable

Eyes
Stage Prime Time Eye Perfecting Base in 01 Vanilla
NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green
Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow in Graffiti
Kate Gradical Eye Palette in GR1 (the green palette)
MAC Pigment in Melon
Elianto vibrant shadow in Early Dawn
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look mascara (non-waterproof formula)

Lips
Revlon ColorBurst in 070 Soft Nude
Stage Wondergloss Lipgloss in 12 Sophia

Apply an eye primer (Stage Prime Time Eye Base in Vanilla) all over the lids up to the brow bone : for eyeshadow to appear more vibrant and to avoid creasing (especially if you have oily lids).
Apply a green-colored cream eyeshadow (NYX Rocky Mountain Green) on the lids, passing the crease and leaving the inner corner of the eyes open. The cream eyeshadow will act as a sticky base for your powder eyeshadow to adhere to.
Next, pat on a cool green eyeshadow (Urban Decay Graffiti) all over the area where the cream eyeshadow was placed.

Blend out the cool green eyeshadow after patting it on.

Using a dark green eyeshadow (KATE Gradical Eyes green palette - the darkest green), place it on the outer crease of the eye and blend it together with the cool green eyeshadow.

Following that, apply a bright apricot gold eyeshadow (MAC Melon pigment) into the inner corner of the eye, blending it into the cool green eyeshadow.
Fill in the eyebrows (Elianto Definer Pencil in Brown and Revlon Rich Sable) and highlight with a matte off-white eyeshadow (Elianto Early Dawn).
Blend out the harsh edges for a smooth finish.
Curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara!

Here's the completed look in different lighting. :D

Hope you all enjoyed this! Till then...

NOTW : Nails of the Week!

Sorry for being MIA. I was really busy with work and did not have time to get photos edited to be posted up here. Nevertheless, amidst the crazy school work, I managed to find joy in giving myself nice nails throughout the week. I was not out much therefore no EOTD for now. Sorry! But I promise to post up a look by next week! :D

Was pretty obsessed with my nails this week because they have never been this long! It's so fun getting to paint 'em. Here goes...

Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus in BR666 Mascara Review

It is not yet the weekend and I should be focusing on something else which is of top priority today BUT I could not withdraw myself from the makeup world. Oh help me, please. :( So as promised... here goes!

I spotted the new Limited Edition Majolica Majorca (lets call it MM from now on) Lash Expander Frame Plus in BR666 at Watsons and had to get it! The code BR stands for BROWN meaning this is a BROWN mascara. A rare find for me. :) I first heard about it from Fuzkittie (Facebook & YouTube beauty blogger - do check her out!) and she raved about how great this mascara is and highly recommends it in her February Likes & Dislikes video.

Remember in one of my previous posts on the Max Factor mascara, I had mentioned that the MM Volume On mascara was a booboo that had cost me 50 ringgit. Well, this MM mascara however is no booboo! It's a definite hit at 38 ringgit! :) I don't remember what the claims of this mascara are but from the name 'expander frame plus' itself, I gather it to lengthen and expand the frame of my lashes. No? :)

The Brush : Standard MM wands. If you don't own any MM mascara, please check out the picture below. It's a dual-sided plastic mascara comb. One side with narrower teeth and the other side the has more spaced-out teeth.

The Formula :This mascara has tiny fibers in it that creates fuller and longer lashes upon application. It is not too wet so application is non-messy on the lashes. HOWEVER, you definitely need practice on using the plastic mascara comb otherwise smudges will be apparent all over the lids and even under. I am speaking from experience here! :P And please be careful not to get the little fibers into the eyes!

The Effect : On MY own lashes, this mascara lengthens mucho to my liking and volumizes just a little bit. Since this mascara is specialized for length, I won't critic the volume effect of it. :) And because it is brown, I love how natural it looks on my lashes. Plus, the mascara holds the curls like no other!

And now, pictures of the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus mascara in action. Enjoy!

Bare lashes!

Curl 'em with your favorite eyelash curler!

Jiggle and wiggle the narrow side of the wand amongst your lashes to coat them evenly.
Keep on combing your lashes till you get the desired length (as you comb, the fibers are extending your lashes).

As you can see, a brown mascara makes lashes look pretty natural and that's why I like it!

So, do you use brown or any other colored mascaras? This is my very first one and I am indeed excited! In fact, I am itching to get the new Limited Edition (yet again) Lush Gorgeous Wing Neo in RD600. And you know what RD means?

RED!!! A berry red mascara! I will let you guys know when I see this in stores. Woot woot!

Till then... Please keep Japan in your prayers. The nation was just hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake resulting in killer tidal waves - TSUNAMI. Tsunami warnings have been issued for at least 20 other countries. Information cited from CNN. Stay safe, everyone!

The Body Shop Friendship Weekend Sale and NOTD 01

I was at The Body Shop (TBS) with Tinkerbell for the Friendship Weekend sale (25-27 Feb) where TBS members will get a 30% discount and friends get a 20% discount off their purchases. So Tinkerbell and I took the opportunity to get some stuff and one of the items I got was the TBS baked eyeshadow in 08 Amethyst.

I first spotted this on the eyes of the sales assistance and was immediately captivated by the vibrant purple colors. Here's what the eyeshadow looks like with its packaging.

It was SO SO SO extremely difficult to capture the true colors that I see with my own two eyes on camera. Really, I wanted to do this eyeshadow justice but the camera is not picking up the lovely shimmers. Definitely check the color in stores and see for yourself. AMAZING. :D

Texture/Formula : A little bit gritty. Be careful of fall-out.
Color payoff : Not that great as I expected it to be but the amazing purple colors was the overwrite to that. The last picture below shows the baked eyeshadow swatched wet. Definitely shows up much better.
The smaller crescent is a dark purple with SUPER PRETTY  fine purple, pink and silver glitters. The bigger crescent is a violet purple with fine pink glitters.

Anyways, here are some other pictures... the very best I could do for now. Enjoy!

Till then... here are my nails of the day (NOTD) :

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look Mascara Review

I came across the Max Factor counter at Parkson in 1st Avenue (a mall here in Penang) and was immediately drawn to the mascaras. I have read so many good things about the mascaras especially the 2000 Calorie one ( I always ALWAYS research @ read reviews on beauty products before I purchase them UNLESS a great sales person / makeup artist convinces me to get some thing on the spot).

Almost immediately, I got the sales assistant to pack one up for me while a good friend of mine, Tinkerbell (name changed for privacy purposes) grabbed the False Lash Effect mascara upon reading it in a magazine. The 2000 Calorie mascara costs 36 ringgit while the False Lash Effect is 66 ringgit. Pretty pricey for the latter but Tinkerbell has nothing but great praise for the mascara she bought. And I, too, am really happy with my purchase.

On the packaging, the 2000 Calories mascara (made in Ireland) claims to volumize lashes 300% more and is smudgeproof. Although the number 300 looks BIG but in simpler times, it just means three times more volume than the original, right?

The Brush : Big, chunky wand, tapered at the end. Grabs all lashes.
The Formula : Pretty dry. Just nice for my liking. Dries fast thus not smudging on lids when eyes are open.
The Effect : On MY own lashes, this mascara curls 'em, lengthens and volumizes. Not 300% definitely but enough for me to sing praises and to recommend to others. Refer to pictures below.

I have tried the Maybelline Volum' Express The Magnum mascara and DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL. It flaked almost immediately after application and weighed down my curled lashes. Bah. I paid 35 ringgit for a booboo. :(

L'Oreal mascaras are almost 50 ringgit per piece. So are the Majolica Majorca ones. I personally have not tried a L'Oreal mascara but for that price, IT BETTER WORK on my lashes when I get hold of it. I paid that money for the Majolica Majorca Volume On mascara and that too did not pass MAKEUPAU's standards. Another booboo costing 50 ringgit. :(

Recommendations for mascaras : Benefit's Bad Gal lash, MAC's Zoom Lash, Max Factor's 2000 Calorie, Cover Girl's Lash Blast Volume, Maybelline's Unstoppable Curly Extension.

And now, pictures of the Max Factor mascara in action. Enjoy!

Mascara on upper and lower lashes

I decided to test out on how well the mascara curls my lashes.
So for the other eye, I started off with clean lashes as usual but I DID NOT curl my lashes beforehand.
With two coats of the 2000 Calorie mascara onto my uncurled lashes, the result is shown in the picture after.
Impressive, no?

I would say MUCHO IMPRESSIVE!!! :) Eyes look wide open!

Overall, I definitely give this mascara an A and will definitely repurchase.
Have you tried it? What do you think? Share with me!

It Was The Weekend...

A very packed weekend.
Next post... Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look mascara review. JENG JENG JENG! Hahaha!

Till then.

EOTD 01 : Bahamas and Wildflower

As promised, I did a look using the two eyeshadow colors I bought from Stage Cosmetics. You may check out the haul post here. FYI, EOTD is an abbreviation for EYES OF THE DAY. :) Many more abbreviations to come as this blog progresses.

Face
ZA Skin Beauty Two-Way Foundation in shade 20
The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist
Eyebrows
Maybelline Chai Latte eyeshadow quad - the darkest chocolate brown eyeshadow
Eyes
Stage Prime Time Eye Perfecting Base in 01 Vanilla
NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk
Stage Cosmetics eyeshadow mono in shades 10 Bahamas and 26 Wildflower
Elianto vibrant shadow in Early Dawn
Max Factor Color Perfection Eyeliner in Black
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look mascara (non-waterproof formula)

Start off with a clean moisturized face.
Apply foundation and set with face mist.

Apply the eye primer all over the lid up to the brow bone area.

Use a white-colored base such as NYX's Milk and apply a thin layer over the lid.

Using a shimmery lavender eyeshadow color, pack it on to the entire lid area, bringing it slightly above the crease with an eyeshadow brush.

With a shimmery taupe and a tapered crease brush, apply the color along the crease, defining the outer-V.

Get a fluffy brush and a matte cream-colored eyeshadow and apply it to the brow bone area. Blend out any harsh edges.

Fill in the eyebrows with a dark chocolate brown color.
Line the upper and lower lash line with a black liner and set it with the same eyeshadow used for the brows.

Curl your upper lashes and then apply mascara to the upper and lower lashes.

The finished look... very simple, everyday wearable look.

THE END! :D
